DA wants probe over Malema

Democratic Alliance Youth leader Khume Ramulifho has asked the State Tender Board to investigate all tenders awarded to companies linked to ANC Youth League president Julius Malema.

Ramulifho on Friday gave media a copy of a letter he has written to the tender board, calling for a probe on the basis of press reports that four companies linked to Malema were not registered with the Construction Industry Development Board.

“I would like to request as a matter of urgency that you investigate this matter and take the appropriate action should irregularities or contraventions of the law be discovered,” he wrote.

Sunday newspapers have reported that companies linked to Malema won state government contracts worth millions, notably in construction contracts in his home province of Limpopo.

This was followed by other media reports that the companies were not registered with the Construction Industry Development Board, drawing into question the legality of the tenders awarded to them.

Ramulifho said if the board were to find “that fraud or criminal activity had taken place”, it should blacklist the companies in question and take action against the ANCYL leader.
